Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

J-TETA: Jurnal Teknik Terapan, published by Politeknik Negeri Jember, is committed to ensuring the highest standards of publication ethics. The journal follows the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. We stand firmly against any form of publication malpractice to ensure a fair, transparent, and objective scholarly record.

1. Duties of Authors
  • Reporting Standards: Authors must provide an accurate, original, and objective account of the research conducted. Underlying data must be represented accurately. Fabricating, falsifying, or selectively reporting data constitutes unethical behavior and is strictly unacceptable.
  • Originality and Plagiarism: Submitted manuscripts must be entirely original. Any work, ideas, or words of others must be properly cited or quoted. J-TETA does not tolerate plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism.
  • Multiple or Concurrent Publication: Submitting the same manuscript concurrently to more than one journal is unethical and unacceptable.
  • Authorship Criteria: Authorship is strictly limited to individuals who made substantial contributions to the study's conception, design, data analysis, or manuscript drafting. All co-authors must approve the final version and agree to its submission. Any authorship changes after submission require written approval from all authors and the Editor.
  • Data Availability & Transparency: Authors are encouraged to retain original research data and should include a Data Availability Statement within the manuscript whenever possible.
  • Ethical Oversight: Research involving human participants or animals must comply with institutional and national ethical guidelines, including obtaining necessary approvals from an institutional review board and informed consent.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Disclosure: Authors utilizing AI or generative AI tools for writing, editing, or data analysis must disclose their use in the manuscript. AI cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and validity of the content.
  • Fundamental Errors: If an author discovers a significant error after publication, they are obligated to promptly notify the J-TETA Editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the paper.
2. Duties of Editors
  • Publication Decisions: The Editor-in-Chief of J-TETA is responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts will be published based solely on scholarly merit, originality, clarity, ethical compliance, and scope relevance.
  • Fair Play: Editors evaluate manuscripts without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
  • Editorial Independence: Editorial decisions are made independently without influence from the publisher, sponsors, or commercial interests.
  • Confidentiality: The editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.
  • Peer Review Management: Editors ensure a fair, blind peer-review process conducted by qualified reviewers. The initial review utilizes specialized software to examine content originality before forwarding the naskah to referees.
  • Handling Misconduct: In accordance with COPE guidelines, editors will respond appropriately to allegations of misconduct, including plagiarism, duplicate publication, image/citation manipulation, or paper mill activities.
3. Duties of Reviewers
  • Promptness: Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete the review within the stipulated time frame must promptly notify the Editor so the manuscript can be reassigned.
  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with third parties.
  • Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively, offering constructive, evidence-based feedback. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and call the Editor's attention to any substantial similarities with other published papers.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts in which they have financial, institutional, collaborative, or personal conflicts of interest with the authors or institutions.
  • AI Restrictions: Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading submitted manuscripts or any confidential review data into public AI systems or third-party tools.
4. Duties of the Publisher
Politeknik Negeri Jember, as the publisher of J-TETA, supports the Editorial Board in maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. The publisher is committed to:
  • Safeguarding editorial independence.
  • Assisting with corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and post-publication updates following COPE recommendations.
  • Ensuring that commercial interests or publishing metrics do not influence editorial decisions.
5. Dealing with Research Misconduct & Appeals
  • Misconduct Investigation: J-TETA takes all allegations of research misconduct seriously (e.g., data fabrication, citation manipulation, peer-review manipulation, and paper mills). All cases will be investigated fairly and confidentially under COPE Core Practices.
  • Post-Publication Updates: When necessary, the journal will publish Corrections (Erratum/Corrigendum), Retractions, or Expressions of Concern to maintain the accuracy of the literature.
  • Appeals and Complaints: Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions or lodge complaints regarding the peer-review process. These will be handled objectively and confidentially by the Editorial Board.
